PARIS, June 1 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Several Middle Eastern and European countries condemned Israel’s military escalation in Lebanon and called for diplomacy, CNN reported.

Israel said it had increased strikes in response to ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, while the Iran-backed group said its attacks targeted Israeli forces in response to continued Israeli strikes.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Israel had continued military operations and shelling of villages “under the pretext of self-defense,” adding that Lebanon remained committed to diplomacy.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it called Israeli aggression against Lebanon and rejected the violation of Lebanese sovereignty.

Qatar condemned what it called persistent Israeli assaults on Lebanon, the expansion of Israel’s ground incursion and the targeting of civilians.

Jordan also accused Israel of targeting civilians and violating Lebanon’s sovereignty, while reaffirming support for Lebanon’s security, stability and territorial integrity.

Turkey condemned what it called Israel’s expanding occupation in Lebanon and called for immediate international action to end the attacks.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Israel’s escalation had killed and displaced civilians, destroyed infrastructure and reduced space for diplomacy. She called on Hezbollah to end attacks on Israel and disarm, and urged all sides to respect the ceasefire.

Portugal called for an end to the attacks and full respect for the ceasefire, while Germany said Israel’s advance into Lebanon was a serious concern but described it as a reaction to continued Hezbollah attacks on northern Israel.
