Diriyah, October 9, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Museums Commission will stage the fourth edition of the International Contemporary Art Biennial of the South – BIENALSUR at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA) in JAX District, Diriyah, from October 15 to December 31, 2025, strengthening cultural exchange through art, imagination and shared creativity, the commission said.
Marking ten years since BIENALSUR’s inception in Buenos Aires, the biennial has grown into one of the most geographically expansive and culturally diverse contemporary art platforms, spanning 70+ cities worldwide. The Diriyah edition will spotlight local practices alongside leading global artworks, reflecting BIENALSUR’s cross-border ethos.
Under the title “LET’S PLAY: A Labyrinth of Options,” the exhibition offers an interactive experience inspired by the concept of play and the novel Hopscotch by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar, inviting audiences into a visual dialogue that opens new horizons for exploring life, imagination and possibility through contemporary art.
The show features Saudi and international artists, including Nasser Al Turki, Arwa Alneami, Rex Chouk, Dur Kattan; and Carlos Amorales (Mexico), Christian Boltanski (France), Robbie Cooper (UK), Dias & Riedweg (Brazil/Switzerland), Félix González-Torres (US/Cuba), Glenda León (Cuba), Marcelino Melo (Brazil), Marta Minujín (Argentina), Vik Muniz (Brazil), Michelangelo Pistoletto (Italy), Liliana Porter (Argentina), Tansy Xiao (China), Erwin Wurm (Austria), Aimée Zito Lema (Netherlands).
Hosting the biennial underscores the Museums Commission’s commitment to fostering contemporary cultural practices and expanding public access to knowledge and art. SAMoCA@JAX, the Kingdom’s first contemporary art museum, serves as a platform for local and international artists to exchange, connect and grow.
