ALULA, Saudi Arabia, April 8 - AlUla has secured a place on the shortlist for a major international screen industry award, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s wider effort to develop the ancient desert region into a competitive base for film and television production.
The northwestern county was named a finalist in the Film City 2026 category at the Global Production Awards, an industry event held in parallel with the Cannes Film Festival that recognises leading production destinations and infrastructure.
The nomination highlights AlUla’s increasing appeal to producers seeking visually distinctive locations, with its sandstone landscapes, broad valleys and archaeological setting helping it stand out in a crowded global market for shoots.
Saudi authorities have been expanding the region’s production capabilities in recent years, using both its natural terrain and studio support services to attract local and overseas projects across film, television and other visual media.
At the centre of that effort is Film AlUla, which operates under the Royal Commission for AlUla and includes a full studio complex designed to support different stages of production and position the area as a regional hub for the sector.
The latest recognition marks another step in AlUla’s campaign to build an international production identity around a mix of dramatic scenery, heritage value and dedicated filming infrastructure.
