AlUla, Jan 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The exhibition “Witnessing the Material… Celebrating Design from Within” has opened at AlUla Design Space as part of the AlUla Arts Festival, offering visitors a hands-on experience to explore materials, textures and the link between craft and contemporary design.

The exhibition positions design as a cultural practice grounded in research and experimentation, highlighting the role of material choices and craft skills in shaping design ideas.

Organisers linked the programme to AlUla’s long cultural history and to ongoing initiatives that connect traditional and contemporary art, support local and international creative exchange, and contribute to quality-of-life and economic objectives in the governorate.

The exhibition presents four connected programmes that frame design through local context, bringing together idea, material and place while examining the influence of the natural environment and lived experience.

It is curated by Dominique Petit-Frere and Majdah AlDulaijan and features local and international designers, alongside works associated with Madrasat Addeera, the AlUla Design Residency Program, and projects recognised through the AlUla Design Award and the AlUla Designathon.

The exhibition runs until Feb. 28 as part of the fifth edition of the AlUla Arts Festival. Organisers also referenced the “Journey Through Time” plan, which includes 15 cultural, heritage and creativity destinations across AlUla.
