White House Asks U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to Resign

RIYADH, October 13 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - The White House has asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign, White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia said at a briefing on Tuesday. Zacharia praised Guilfoyle’s contribution and wished her well.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he was considering dismissing Guilfoyle, telling reporters he was unhappy with her.
U.S. lawmakers had previously raised concerns over allegations that Guilfoyle may have threatened to use American influence to undermine the Greek government. The U.S. Embassy in Athens did not immediately respond to a request for comment directed to Guilfoyle.
Greece is an important NATO ally of the United States, providing key military facilities that support security in the Eastern Mediterranean. It also leads a European Union maritime mission to protect commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
