WASHINGTON, February 7, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Washington Post publisher and CEO Will Lewis is leaving the newspaper, with the move announced on Saturday after a week of layoffs at the publication.

In a message to staff, Lewis wrote that “difficult decisions” had been taken to support the long-term sustainability of the newspaper and preserve its nonpartisan journalism model.

The Post named Chief Financial Officer Jeff D’Onofrio as acting publisher and CEO.

Lewis, a former Dow Jones chief executive and Wall Street Journal publisher, was appointed to the top role at The Washington Post in 2023, succeeding Fred Ryan.

The departure came days after the newspaper announced major staff cuts; AP reported the reductions were set at one-third of staff.
