BURAIDAH — The Buraidah International Dates Carnival 2026 has launched a wide-ranging programme of tourism, cultural and entertainment activities across the city, with events scheduled to continue through September 10.
The programme, which began Thursday, is being staged at several locations, including the auction square at the National Center, the Events Tent, Al-Hait Center, Al-Nakhlah Center and the King Khalid Cultural Center.
Daily date auctions and the dates exchange remain at the heart of the carnival, alongside exhibitions showcasing premium varieties and activities highlighting the Kingdom’s palm and date industry.
Visitors can also explore culinary events, heritage and art exhibitions, traditional handicrafts and displays featuring innovations based on palm products.
The programme includes opportunities for productive families and local artisans to showcase their goods, creating an additional commercial platform alongside the carnival’s major date market.
Families will have access to a children’s theater, competitions and prizes, while the Palm Museum offers visitors a closer look at the history and cultural significance of one of Saudi Arabia’s most important agricultural products.
Tourism is also a major component of this year’s programme.
A dedicated tourist bus is taking visitors to heritage farms, museums and other attractions around Buraidah, expanding the carnival experience beyond its main venues. SPA separately reported Friday that the tourist bus initiative is operating as part of the carnival’s daily activities.
The entertainment schedule also features live performances, fireworks and a parade of classic Toyota vehicles, as well as exhibitions by participating organizations and event partners.
The expanded programme comes amid strong commercial activity at the Buraidah date market.
More than SAR98 million in date sales were recorded during the first 15 days of August, involving more than 8,264 tonnes of dates and over two million packages, according to carnival statistics reported by SPA.
More than 100 varieties of dates have been arriving at the market daily, including Sukkari, Barhi, Khalas, Saq'i and Majdool, reflecting the scale and diversity of agricultural production in the Qassim Region.
The carnival also provides business opportunities beyond date growers and traders, supporting marketers, craftspeople, productive families and entrepreneurs whose work is connected to palms, dates and local heritage.
With commercial trading, tourism, heritage and entertainment brought together across several venues, the 2026 programme is reinforcing Buraidah’s position as a major seasonal destination for Saudi Arabia’s date industry and the cultural traditions surrounding it.
