PARIS, May 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A memorandum of understanding under negotiation between Iran and the United States would call for U.S. military forces to withdraw from the vicinity of Iran and for the blockade of Iranian ports to be lifted, Iranian state television reported.

In return, Iran would restore the number of commercial ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels within one month, according to the report.

Marine traffic through the strait would be managed by Iran in cooperation with Oman, while military vessels would be excluded from the arrangement.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported that the framework has not been finalized and that Tehran would not take any step without “tangible verification.”

Negotiations are continuing through exchanges over the wording of the draft text, the report said.

If a final deal is reached within 60 days, the memorandum would be approved as a binding United Nations Security Council resolution, according to Iranian state television.

There has been no U.S. comment on the Iranian report.

The memorandum is being negotiated with Pakistani mediation and is viewed as a roadmap for future talks on issues including Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions.
