UAE defence ministry says air defences destroyed 137 ballistic missiles, 209 drones

Riyadh, March 1, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The United Arab Emirates’ defence ministry said its air force and air defence forces have engaged and destroyed 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones launched toward the country since the start of what it described as an Iranian attack.

The ministry said 137 ballistic missiles were detected, with 132 destroyed and five falling into the sea. It said 209 drones were detected, with 195 intercepted and 14 falling within the country’s territory and waters, causing some minor side damage.

It said debris from intercepted missiles and drones fell in separate areas, causing minor material damage to some civilian facilities, and that authorities responded in line with approved procedures to secure affected sites and ensure residents’ safety.

The ministry condemned the attack and said the UAE rejects such acts, describing them as a serious escalation that threatens civilians and undermines stability. It said the UAE reserves the right to respond and take measures to protect its territory, people and residents.

The ministry said it remains on high alert and urged the public to obtain information from official sources and refrain from circulating rumours or unverified information.
