U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia Warns Americans of Potential Airport Attacks and Travel Disruptions

RIYADH, October 13 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia warned American citizens on Tuesday of potential attacks on airports, flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions, urging extreme caution when using airports in Saudi Arabia.

In its October 13 security alert, U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia said the General Authority of Civil Aviation had extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh through October 17. King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam remained operational, with some delays and cancellations, it said.

U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia recommended checking departures directly with airlines and airports and said private cars, trains and buses could offer alternatives to air travel. It said the airports listed in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates remained operational, while advising travellers to confirm their status and transport availability directly with providers.

U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from the Chief of Mission to use any airport in the country following recent aerial attacks, the alert said.

U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia also reiterated the Ministry of Interior’s warning that filming, publishing or sharing information about missile and drone interceptions and impact sites could result in legal liability. It said U.S. citizens had been detained for failing to comply with these regulations, including taking photographs of government buildings, airports and impact sites.
