NEW YORK, March 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the organization is warning of the humanitarian consequences of escalating violence across the Middle East, citing rising civilian casualties, damage to infrastructure and increasing displacement.
Speaking at a briefing in New York, Dujarric said the United Nations is particularly concerned by reports of strikes on oil facilities, which could lead to serious environmental consequences across the region.
He said potential impacts could include threats to safe water supplies, air quality and food systems, adding that attacks on water desalination facilities have also been reported in several countries.
Dujarric reiterated that all possible precautions must be taken to protect civilians and to avoid damage to essential infrastructure, including health facilities, schools and water systems.
