WASHINGTON, June 23 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Monday that Washington would act if Tehran failed to comply with an interim agreement signed last week between the two countries.

“If Iran doesn’t live up to their agreement, or if they’re not behaving, I will do what I have to do,” Trump told reporters.

The warning came after Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed an interim U.S.-Iran deal, more than three months after U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and Iranian strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases.

Trump said funds being unfrozen under the agreement were expected to be used to purchase food exclusively from the United States, adding that the purchases would support American farmers.

Iran gave a different account of the arrangement. Semi-official Tasnim news agency cited Iranian central bank governor Abdolnaser Hemmati as saying Tehran was not required to purchase agricultural inputs from the United States under the current memorandum of understanding.

Hemmati said the remaining frozen funds would not necessarily be used only for essential goods and could also be directed toward other non-sanctioned purchases, Tasnim reported.

The conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States has shaken global markets and raised oil prices.
