Trump threatens further strikes on Iranian infrastructure, casts doubt on deal

ANKARA, July 8 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - U.S. President Donald Trump threatened further strikes on Iranian infrastructure on Wednesday and cast doubt on the prospect of reaching a deal with Tehran, as tensions between the United States and Iran continued to escalate.
Speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Trump said Washington’s objective remained to ensure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.
“I don’t know if we’re going to have a deal. We may just do it without a deal,” Trump said.
“If we make a deal with Iran I’m not sure that will stick,” he added, describing Iranian officials as “very dishonorable people.”
Trump again threatened to target Iranian infrastructure, including electric and water facilities.
“If we have to, we’ll take them out. I don’t want to do that, but if we have to, we’ll take them out,” Trump said.
He also referred to desalination plants, saying: “We’ll take them out if we have to. I hate to do that. That’s probably the one I’d like to do least.”
Trump said U.S. forces had attacked Kharg Island, Iran’s key oil export hub, and suggested it could be targeted again.
“We attacked Kharg Island last night, knocked out a piece,” Trump said. “I said, ‘Don’t touch the oil, because maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island.’”
He added: “Don’t hit the pipes, just hit everything else. And they hit it. They may hit it again tonight.”
Kharg Island exports around 90 percent of Iran’s crude and is located near the northern end of the Gulf, about 300 miles northwest of the Strait of Hormuz.
