China Urges Political Solutions to Middle East Conflict, Plans Regional Envoy Visit

November 2 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – China called for political solutions to the Middle East conflict on Monday and announced that its regional envoy would visit Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia this month.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged parties to pursue dialogue rather than return to armed confrontation during a meeting in Beijing with Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Wang said negotiation was the way to resolve regional conflicts and affirmed China’s support for Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, according to Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
Earlier, President Xi Jinping told Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said that the Middle East and Gulf should not become a battleground for rivalry among major powers.
A joint statement issued after their meeting said Oman supported China’s peace proposals for the Middle East and welcomed a greater Chinese role in securing lasting regional stability.
The announced visits by China’s special envoy come as Beijing seeks a larger diplomatic role in the region.
