WASHINGTON, July 12, Saudi Arabia Breaking News — US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that American forces had struck Iran “very hard” overnight, as the US military reported hitting 140 Iranian military targets in its latest round of attacks.
“These people, there’s something wrong with them,” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper during an interview on State of the Union.
“We had a deal with them yesterday,” Trump said. “They were giving up everything, and then all of the sudden, two hours after that, they hit a ship with a drone.”
The US military said the attacks followed a drone strike on a merchant vessel traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington blamed on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The operation marked the third round of US strikes against Iran within a week and followed public threats from the leaders of both countries.
Conflicting statements also emerged on the status of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian authority responsible for implementing a new transit protocol through the waterway said on Sunday that the passage of vessels was “not possible.”
Trump disputed that assessment, telling CNN that the Strait was “open as far as we’re concerned.”
