RIYADH — A Slovenian falcon breeding farm sold its entire collection on the first day of its debut at the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham, north of Riyadh, highlighting strong buyer interest at one of the world’s leading falconry events.

The farm entered this year’s auction with 23 falcons, including pure Gyrfalcons and Gyrfalcon hybrids, and all of the birds displayed were purchased during its opening day.

Abdullah Al Buainain, a representative of the Slovenian farm, described sales activity as strong and said the result reflected both the quality of the falcons offered and the confidence buyers place in farms participating in the Saudi event.

The successful debut comes as the International Falcon Breeders Auction continues to expand its international reach, bringing breeders and falconers together in Malham for direct sales and competitive bidding.

The event has attracted breeding farms from numerous countries, offering buyers access to a wide variety of falcon breeds and characteristics in a single marketplace.

Saudi organizers have also introduced regulatory and financial procedures intended to document transactions and protect both buyers and sellers, reinforcing the auction’s role as a structured marketplace for the international falcon breeding sector.

Interest in the 2026 edition has remained strong throughout the event. Earlier this month, 14 additional international farms joined the auction, including participants from Spain, Germany, England, Russia, Slovakia, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic and Bahrain.

Competitive bidding has also produced several notable sales. On August 12, a pure Gyrfalcon juvenile from a Slovenian farm sold for SAR135,000, while a Super White Gyrfalcon later fetched SAR1.3 million, becoming one of the most expensive falcons in the auction’s history.

Held in Malham, north of the Saudi capital, the International Falcon Breeders Auction runs through August 25 and forms part of the Kingdom’s broader efforts to support falcon breeding while preserving falconry as an important element of Saudi cultural heritage.

For international breeders, the event provides access to Saudi and regional buyers, while falconers can compare birds from specialized farms around the world in one location.

The Slovenian farm’s first-day sellout adds to signs of strong commercial demand at this year’s event and underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing role as an international hub for falcon breeding, trading and heritage events.
