RIYADH, June 13 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Saudi referee Abdullah Al-Shehri described his selection to officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a major career milestone and an honor for Saudi sports.
In an interview with the Saudi Press Agency, Al-Shehri framed the selection as the result of years of work, sacrifice and support.
“Participating in this tournament means a great deal to me. As a Saudi citizen, it is a tremendous honor to be present and represent the Kingdom among the world's best referees,” Al-Shehri said.
He added that the assignment carried both honor and responsibility, and expressed hope that his participation would motivate the next generation of Saudi referees seeking to reach international tournaments.
Al-Shehri noted that officiating at the World Cup requires strong physical and mental readiness.
He credited his training at the AFC Referees Academy with helping build the confidence and technical preparation needed to work at the highest level.
Al-Shehri said his approach to the tournament would be to focus on each match individually and deliver his best in every assigned task.
