RIYADH, May 21 — King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre said it had successfully applied a fertility-preserving surgical technique to treat adenomyosis for the first time in the Middle East.

The procedure enabled surgeons to remove diseased tissue while preserving the uterus in a patient who had experienced recurrent miscarriages and difficulty conceiving, the hospital said.

Following treatment and IVF, the patient later gave birth to a healthy baby and was discharged in stable condition.

The technique involves removing adenomyotic tissue from the uterine wall while preserving the uterine lining, followed by reconstruction of the uterus to support future pregnancies.

Adenomyosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows into the muscular wall of the uterus and can cause severe pain, abnormal bleeding and fertility complications.

The procedure was carried out through collaboration between the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and the University of British Columbia.
