ST. PETERSBURG, June 5 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia aims to play a central role in the mining and minerals sector, similar to its role in supporting global energy supply stability, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Alkhorayef took part in a panel on rare earth elements and critical minerals, attended by ministers, policymakers and mining sector leaders.

The Kingdom is seeking to strengthen global mineral supply security through international partnerships and the development of an integrated mining ecosystem.

Saudi Arabia launched the Future Minerals Forum as a global platform bringing together governments, mining companies, financial institutions, academic bodies and technology organizations to support cooperation in the sector.

The latest edition of the forum drew participants from 100 countries.

Mining is a key pillar of Vision 2030 and Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification plans.

Recent geological surveying and exploration raised estimates of the Kingdom’s mineral wealth to around $2.5 trillion, about 90% higher than estimates announced in 2018.
