Saudi Arabia Intercepts Ballistic Missiles and Drones Targeting Eastern Province and Shaybah Oil Field

Riyadh, March 12, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and seven drones launched toward sites in the Kingdom, Defense Ministry spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said Thursday.

One ballistic missile was intercepted over the Eastern Province, while another was destroyed after being launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base, Al-Maliki said.

Saudi defenses also intercepted seven drones in the Empty Quarter heading toward the Shaybah oil field, a major production site operated by Saudi Aramco.

The Shaybah field is located in the Rub’ al Khali near the border with the United Arab Emirates.
