RIYADH, May 31 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, in partnership with the General Directorate of Public Security, has developed an AI-powered platform to support security and operational work at the holy sites during Hajj and Umrah, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The smart “Roya” platform uses artificial intelligence, remote sensing and geographic information systems to analyse satellite imagery and geospatial data, monitor crowd density and support traffic movement management.

KACST said the platform provides field indicators to help security authorities manage critical locations and improve response speed and decision-making.

The system also analyses thermal zones and land surface temperature changes in Makkah and the holy sites, detects irregular patterns and converts data into spatial reports for field teams.

KACST said Roya currently displays nearly 2,000 satellite images from current and previous seasons, along with 126 aerial imaging operations covering Makkah, Madinah, the holy sites and roads leading to them.

The platform’s operations are fully automated, from importing satellite and aerial data to processing, analysis and real-time display of outputs and statistics.

Roya is operated by KACST and connected to Public Security’s network through the Command and Control Center.

KACST said the platform supports efforts to improve services for pilgrims and strengthen operational readiness in high-density locations.
