ALULA, July 11, Saudi Arabia Breaking News — The Royal Commission for AlUla has launched the Khayrat AlUla agricultural season for 2026–2027, advancing efforts to improve production efficiency, support farmers and strengthen the competitiveness of the governorate’s agricultural sector.

The initiative forms part of RCU’s work to establish a more efficient and sustainable agricultural ecosystem through digital governance, stronger value chains and greater market access for locally produced crops.

More than 4.2 million palm trees have been surveyed and registered, while over 1.5 million have been enrolled in a smart tracking system using QR codes. The system is designed to improve production quality and prepare agricultural products for domestic marketing and export.

AlUla has more than 20,500 hectares of cultivated land, producing approximately 130,000 tonnes of dates annually. Its more than 400,000 citrus trees generate around 14,000 tonnes of fruit each year.

RCU aims to increase the agricultural sector’s total output to SAR1.8 billion by 2035. Date sales are targeted to reach SAR1.507 billion, including SAR1.226 billion from exports.

The commission also provides advisory, technical and veterinary services to more than 7,100 farmers across AlUla, alongside specialized training programs intended to improve local capabilities and increase the number of farms receiving the Saudi Date Mark.

Sustainability measures include converting agricultural by-products into more than 334,000 cubic meters of organic compost and implementing a strategy to reduce water consumption by 47% by 2035.

Designs have also been completed for modern irrigation systems and measurement tools covering more than 4,000 hectares across agricultural sites including Fadla, Hegra, Al Munshiyah and Dadan.

The seasonal program will connect AlUla’s agricultural production with its visitor experience through events showcasing the oasis’s crops and production cycles.

It will also provide commercial and marketing platforms linking farmers, cottage-industry families, entrepreneurs and local businesses with visitors and investors, supporting wider economic opportunities for the governorate’s residents.
