Pakistan Says Three Nationals Killed in Houthi Attack on Red Sea Vessel
RIYADH, August 12 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Three Pakistani nationals were killed and another was wounded in a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial vessel,” Dar wrote on X.
“Such attacks endanger innocent lives, constitute a violation of international law, and pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security, and the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea.”
Yemen’s internationally recognized government separately accused the Houthis of killing four crew members and two rescue workers in a “double-tap” strike on a Saudi-owned vessel.
The Houthis claimed responsibility through the group’s Saba news agency, saying the vessel was carrying military equipment. Saudi Arabia did not immediately respond to the claim.
The group announced a blockade of Saudi shipping through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait on July 20, citing what it described as a Saudi blockade against the Houthis.
The attack followed the signing of a mutual defense pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The agreement stipulates that an attack against any member “shall be regarded as an attack against them all.”
Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the country was “ready and willing to assist Saudi Arabia and other coalition partners to preserve the security and safety of maritime traffic.”
Andrabi said Pakistan was seeking further information from the Saudi and Yemeni governments.
