Makkah commission maps 20,000 sites, analyses nine million traffic images during Hajj

MAKKAH, July 30 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Makkah authorities used geospatial technology to manage data for more than 20,000 landmarks and services and analyse nine million traffic images during the 1447 AH Hajj season.
The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites deployed the data to track movement, monitor roads and crowds and provide updated information to operational teams.
More than 20 interactive maps covered the holy sites, the central area and the Grand Mosque, while 8,248 Hajj-related points of interest were reviewed on the Balady mapping platform.
A traffic and situational-awareness system processed more than 350,000 location and geospatial elements. It also connected 419 bus stations to live schedules.
Pilgrims and visitors accessed 11 guidance maps containing more than 5,000 locations. The maps recorded 537,197 uses, led by the Grand Mosque map with 233,590.
The Makkah administrative boundaries map registered 69,275 uses, while a map of major sites and camps was accessed 44,084 times.
