RIYADH, June 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Iran said on Saturday it had struck targets linked to U.S. forces in response to U.S. airstrikes on its southern coast, as Tehran and Washington continued to accuse each other of violating last week’s agreement meant to end a four-month-old war.
Iran’s foreign ministry did not identify the locations of what it described as defensive attacks. It said the strikes came in response to what it called barbaric U.S. airstrikes on Iranian coastal surveillance facilities.
Tehran said the U.S. strikes violated the U.N. Charter. Washington did not immediately respond to Iran’s statement on strikes against U.S.-linked targets.
Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, later condemned what it said was an Iranian drone attack on its territory. It called the attack a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to its security, adding that it reserved the right to defend itself.
The U.S. military said its strikes on Friday were a response to an Iranian drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global energy supplies.
The exchange highlighted continued tensions after last week’s agreement, with each side blaming the other for renewed hostilities.
