Iran foreign minister discusses U.S. pressure with Saudi, Qatari counterparts

RIYADH, April 13 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Monday to discuss what Tehran described as risks stemming from provocative U.S. actions to block Iranian ports, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

In his call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Araghchi said Iran had acted in good faith by accepting a ceasefire with the United States, but accused Washington of undermining negotiations.

"Unfortunately, we witnessed the continuation of the American side's greed in the negotiations, which caused the failure to reach a result," Araghchi said, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, referring to talks held in Pakistan over the weekend that ended without a breakthrough.

In a separate call with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Araghchi said Tehran had entered the diplomatic process responsibly in order to protect its national interests and preserve regional peace and security.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on X that any U.S. move to blockade Iranian ports would amount to retaliation against the global economy.

Washington did not immediately comment on the Iranian statements.
