RIYADH, April 3, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - A French-owned container ship crossed the Strait of Hormuz, according to shipping data, in one of the latest signs of limited commercial movement through the waterway since the war disrupted regional shipping. Reuters reported that the vessel was the Malta-flagged Kribi, operated by CMA CGM.
The ship passed through the strait on April 2, Reuters said, marking the first French-owned vessel to do so since the conflict began in late February.
The crossing comes amid a slow return of selected vessels through Hormuz after weeks of severe disruption. Reuters also reported on Friday that a Japanese-owned liquefied natural gas tanker had crossed the channel, while earlier limited passages involved ships linked to China, India and Greece.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for global energy and trade flows, and shipping through it has been heavily restricted since the outbreak of the Iran war.
