DAMASCUS, February 7, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi low-cost carrier flynas signed an agreement on Saturday with Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport to establish a new commercial airline, flynas Syria, with operations scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The signing took place in the presence of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and was framed as part of broader Saudi-Syrian economic cooperation and investment coordination with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment.

Under the agreement, the new airline will be structured as a joint venture, with 51% owned by Syria’s civil aviation authority and 49% by flynas.

The carrier is set to operate commercial services to destinations across the Middle East, Africa and Europe, with licensing and operational procedures to be completed with relevant authorities under approved aviation safety and security standards.

Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih said the project supports cross-border investment and deeper market connectivity, while Syrian civil aviation chief Omar Hosari described the venture as part of efforts to rebuild and modernize Syria’s civil aviation sector.

flynas Chairman Ayed Al-Jeaid and Chief Executive Bander Al-Mohanna said the agreement aligns with the airline’s growth and international expansion strategy, including transfer of its low-cost operating model to the Syrian market.

flynas currently operates 23 weekly flights to Damascus from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and resumed scheduled Saudi flights to the Syrian capital on June 5, 2025.
