AlUla, September 7, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Fish Rock in Wadi AlFann, AlUla Governorate, has been identified as one of the region’s most distinctive natural landmarks, resembling a giant fish lying in the desert, according to the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU).
The geological formation, stretching nearly 200 meters—the length of two football fields—dates back more than 500 million years. Its unusual shape was sculpted by erosion from ancient river systems that carried sand to the edges of the supercontinent Gondwana, RCU explained.
Located within a 65-square-kilometer area, Wadi AlFann is a central feature of the Journey Through Time Masterplan, which aims to position AlUla as a leading international destination for arts, heritage, culture, and nature, while safeguarding its geological and cultural legacy.
