Emirates bans use of power banks onboard flights from October 1

Dubai, September 30, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Emirates will prohibit the use of power banks on all its flights starting October 1, citing enhanced safety measures following an increase in lithium battery-related incidents across the aviation industry.

The airline confirmed that while passengers may still carry one power bank of under 100 Watt Hours, its use will not be permitted in the aircraft cabin. Passengers will not be allowed to charge devices from the power bank or recharge the power bank itself using the aircraft’s power supply.

Power banks carried onboard must display capacity rating information and must be stored either in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front. Placement in overhead bins is not permitted. The existing rule barring power banks from checked baggage remains unchanged.

Emirates provides in-seat charging facilities on all aircraft but recommends that passengers fully charge devices before boarding, particularly for longer flights.

The airline said the decision followed a comprehensive safety review aimed at minimizing potential risks. “Storing power banks in accessible locations ensures that in the rare event of a fire, cabin crew can respond quickly,” the carrier noted.

Emirates emphasized that safety remains central to its operations and that the new rules are designed to protect both passengers and staff.
