MASHHAD, July 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Large crowds gathered in the Iranian city of Mashhad ahead of the burial ceremony for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iranian media reported.
Crowds moved along the route of the funeral procession, though the vehicle carrying the bodies of Khamenei and his family members had not yet arrived, according to Iranian media.
Mourners headed toward the Imam Reza Shrine, where Khamenei is expected to be buried.
Many in the crowd waved red flags, which were presented as a symbol of vengeance for the leader’s killing.
The gathering comes as Iran continues to face rising tensions following renewed U.S. strikes and regional attacks across the Gulf.
