LONDON, October 20 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Britain will deploy Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets on defensive missions to protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure from Houthi drones and missiles, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.

The additional support follows a request from the Saudi government. Britain will also deploy an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers.

The ministry said the Typhoons would operate solely in a defensive role and would not carry out offensive strikes against the Houthis.

Defence Minister Wes Streeting said he had approved the support in response to continued attacks on Saudi Arabia, highlighting the targeting of Riyadh’s airport.

The deployment expands assistance announced in September, which included an RAF Voyager air-to-air refuelling aircraft but no fighter jets.

Britain said the Houthi attacks threatened regional stability and risked disrupting energy supplies and trade routes.
