Bahrain to review citizenship of those deemed threat to national security

RIYADH, April 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has ordered the government to immediately take measures against those deemed a threat to national security, including stripping citizenship from those "who don't deserve it," the state-run Bahrain News Agency reported.

The king ordered action against "those who have betrayed the nation or undermined its security and stability," the agency said. "The situation is still delicate," he was quoted as saying.

The decision comes amid an intensified crackdown on dissent during the war in the Middle East. Authorities in the Shiite-majority kingdom, ruled by a Sunni monarchy, have detained many people over the course of the conflict.

Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, has been among the countries hardest hit by Iranian missile and drone attacks during the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
