AFC to hold Asian Cup 2027 final draw in Saudi Arabia on May 9


RIYADH, May 4 — The Asian Football Confederation said the final draw ceremony for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 will take place on May 9 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, with 24 national teams set to be placed into six groups of four.


The draw will be held at Salwa Palace in the At-Turaif district at 21:00 Saudi time, according to the official announcement.


The UAE national team has been placed in Pot 2, alongside Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, Oman and Syria, based on the latest FIFA rankings issued on April 1.


The teams will be divided into four pots of six teams each before being drawn into six groups. Pot 1 includes Saudi Arabia, as hosts, along with Japan, Iran, Republic of Korea, Australia and Uzbekistan.


Pot 3 includes Bahrain, Thailand, China, Palestine, Vietnam and Tajikistan, while Pot 4 includes Kyrgyzstan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Kuwait, Singapore and the winner of the Lebanon-Yemen match scheduled for June 4, 2026.


The tournament will begin on January 7, 2027 at King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh and will be played across eight stadiums in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar.
