ADNOC Oil Tanker Targeted by Missile in Strait of Hormuz, Company Says

ABU DHABI, August 8 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — An Abu Dhabi National Oil Company oil tanker was targeted by a missile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday morning, the company said in a statement carried by the UAE’s WAM news agency.
No one was injured, and the situation is “under control,” according to the statement.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the attack and blamed Iran.
“This assault represents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, as well as a direct threat to the security and safety of maritimate navigation … in one of the world’s most vital waterways,” GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi said.
The incident marked the third attack involving missiles or drones against an ADNOC vessel this week, according to a separate company statement released on Friday. CNN reported that 15 ADNOC vessels have come under attack since the war began, leaving one crew member dead and 20 others injured.
Sepah News, the official website of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, earlier reported that a UAE oil tanker had been attacked and “is currently burning in the US-supported shipping route.”
ADNOC did not disclose the precise location where the tanker was hit.
IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohibi said on Saturday that reopening the strait “depends on the US fully accepting Iran’s conditions and refraining from interfering in the regional negotiation process.”
Iranian media reported details on Friday of a tentative arrangement between Iran and Oman to manage commercial shipping through the strait. It remains unclear whether Oman or the United States has accepted the arrangement described by Iranian media.
