The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia said it is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East and urged American citizens in the Kingdom to stay alert, follow local authorities’ instructions, and review the latest embassy guidance to make decisions about their safety.
In its latest advisory, the embassy said President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the US Department of State consider the safety and security of American citizens their highest priority.
The embassy urged all Americans in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant and keep checking official updates from the US Embassy or Consulate.
It also encouraged US citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia, while noting that commercial flights remain available and Saudi airspace is still open despite frequent air traffic restrictions linked to continued missile and drone threats.
According to the advisory, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam airports remain open and operational, though travelers were told to check directly with airlines because delays and cancellations remain possible.
The embassy said it understands that some airlines have suspended part of their operations. Lufthansa, including LH group airlines, and Eurowings have suspended flights to and from Riyadh and Dammam through October 24, 2026. KLM has suspended Dammam and Riyadh flights up to and including Sunday, May 17, 2026.
The US Embassy in Riyadh also said all US government employees have been directed to limit non-essential movements and comply with curfews.
American citizens who remain in the Kingdom were told to follow the advice of the Saudi government’s early warning system, though the embassy noted that the system is not consistently reliable in providing timely warnings.
The embassy added that those who choose not to leave through commercial options should be prepared to shelter in place in a secure location, whether at home or in another safe building, if necessary. It advised people to keep supplies of food, water, medications, and other essential items.
