ABU DHABI, May 16 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call with International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Grossi, WAM reported.
Sheikh Abdullah strongly condemned what he described as a terrorist attack that caused a fire in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra Region after a drone strike.
No injuries were reported and there was no impact on radiological safety levels, WAM said.
Sheikh Abdullah said targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure is a violation of international law, adding that the UAE has the right to take necessary measures to protect its security, territorial integrity and citizens.
The two sides also discussed UAE-IAEA cooperation and ways to strengthen cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy under international safety, security and non-proliferation standards.
