Washington, August 31, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – A divided U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday that most of former President Donald Trump’s tariffs are illegal, undermining one of the Republican leader’s central economic policy tools.

The court allowed the tariffs to remain in effect until October 14 to give the Trump administration time to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. The ruling adds to an escalating legal battle that also involves the independence of the Federal Reserve, with both cases expected to reach the Supreme Court this year in what could become an unprecedented test of Trump’s economic agenda.

Trump has made tariffs a pillar of his second-term foreign policy, using them to apply pressure on trading partners and renegotiate trade agreements. While the levies have provided leverage in securing concessions, they have also contributed to volatility in global financial markets.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized the ruling by what he described as a “highly partisan” court, warning: “If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country.” He expressed confidence in a reversal, saying he expected tariffs to continue “with the help of the Supreme Court.”
