MALHAM, August 20 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — UK Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Stephen Hitchen visited the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham and attended part of its eighth night, during which six falcons sold for a combined SAR312,000.
The visit gave Hitchen his first close experience with falcons in Saudi Arabia after spending a year in the Kingdom.
The ambassador said he had known about the falcon’s position within Saudi culture before visiting the auction, but seeing the birds and the surrounding activity allowed him to understand that significance directly.
Hitchen had previously encountered falcons in the United Kingdom. He said, however, that those experiences did not have the same presence or level of enthusiasm he observed in Saudi Arabia.
Representatives briefed the ambassador on the auction’s events and the participation of Saudi and international breeding farms.
He also learned about the National Center for Falcons’ work to preserve the Kingdom’s falconry heritage and develop activities connected with the practice.
Hitchen expressed interest in learning more about Saudi falconry traditions and related events and thanked the center for receiving him during the visit.
