UAE allows residents with expired permits abroad to return due to airspace closures

Abu Dhabi, March 13 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has allowed residents currently outside the country whose residency permits expired to return, citing regional circumstances that prevented their travel due to airspace closures.

The decision applies to residents whose permits expired on or after February 28, 2026 while they were abroad and were unable to return because of flight suspensions or airspace restrictions.

The authority said the measure will remain in effect until March 31, allowing affected residents to enter the UAE without applying for a new entry visa and to regularize their legal status without financial penalties.

Officials said the decision was introduced to address exceptional circumstances affecting residents overseas who were unable to renew their residency permits due to disruptions in air travel.

The authority said it continues to implement emergency response and business continuity plans across operational locations and airports to ensure smooth procedures and support residents affected by flight delays or rescheduling.
