PARIS, March 29, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad warned on Sunday that Iran and allied militias may target universities in Iraq perceived to be associated with the United States and reiterated its call for U.S. citizens to leave the country.
In a statement posted on X, the embassy said Iran and allied militias “may intend to target the American Universities in Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk, along with other universities perceived to be associated with the United States.”
The embassy said Iran and affiliated militias had already carried out “widespread attacks on U.S. citizens, targets associated with the United States throughout Iraq” and said the Iraqi government had not prevented attacks against the United States and regional countries from Iraqi territory.
It repeated its warning for U.S. citizens to leave Iraq.
Many universities across the region have already shifted to online teaching since the conflict widened following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, according to the Associated Press.
