U.N. Human Rights Council adopts consensus resolution condemning Iranian attacks

Riyadh, March 25, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The U.N. Human Rights Council adopted by consensus on Wednesday a resolution condemning Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

The resolution, backed by more than 100 states, condemned the attacks as violations of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security. It also condemned attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, energy facilities, desalination plants and residential areas.

The text also rejected any acts or threats aimed at closing or obstructing international navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, warning of broader implications for trade, energy security and global supply chains.

The resolution reaffirmed support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the affected states, recognised their right to self-defence under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter, and called on Iran to immediately and unconditionally cease all attacks, threats and provocations. It also called for full and prompt reparations for victims.

The move followed an urgent debate in Geneva requested by Gulf states and Jordan on the human rights implications of the attacks.
