Trump Signals Limited Iran Talks as Tehran Denies Negotiations Are Underway

WASHINGTON, August 10 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — President Donald Trump described U.S. engagement with Iran as limited, while Tehran said the two countries were not holding negotiations and maintained that indirect messages were continuing through intermediaries.
Trump said Sunday that the United States was “low-keying” negotiations and pointed to Iran’s economic conditions as part of Washington’s approach.
“We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money,” Trump said in a phone interview with Axios.
“It will work out. It always works out. It’s like a chess game,” Trump said.
His comments came as Iran presented new demands related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The CNN report did not detail those demands.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that Iran and the United States were not engaged in negotiations. Tehran has accused Washington of breaching an initial agreement reached in June and said talks cannot restart until the dispute is addressed.
“In our view, until the violations of the understanding are resolved, and America compensates for what it violated in the memorandum of understanding, there is no possibility of restarting negotiations,” Araghchi said.
Araghchi said Iran continued to exchange messages through intermediaries who were trying to identify ways to resume negotiations.
