Trump says he may or may not have plan on further U.S. action against Kharg Island

Riyadh, March 20, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he would not say whether he planned further military action against Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub, when asked about the possibility of additional U.S. targeting of the island in the Gulf.

Speaking as he left the White House, Trump said Kharg Island was under discussion but declined to say whether Washington would move ahead with any new operation. “I may have a plan I may not,” Trump said. “It’s certainly a place that people are talking about. But I can’t tell you that.”

Kharg Island is vital to Iran’s oil network and handles the bulk of the country’s crude exports. Reuters reported earlier that the Trump administration had been weighing options tied to the island as part of efforts to pressure Iran over the Strait of Hormuz crisis.

The comments came after Reuters reported this month that U.S. forces had already struck military installations on Kharg Island while avoiding its oil infrastructure, and as Washington considers further steps linked to shipping security and energy flows in the region.
