WASHINGTON, October 8 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — U.S. President Donald Trump questioned whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee would choose him for this year’s peace prize, while arguing that his involvement in international conflicts deserved the award, Reuters reported.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, ahead of Friday’s announcement, Trump said: “I don’t know what their decision is going to be.” He added: “They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.”

Trump cited his involvement in eight conflicts since returning to office in January 2025 as grounds for receiving the prize. The leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have said they nominated him, although Reuters said those nominations could not be verified.

His claims to have resolved conflicts have been challenged by some of the parties involved. Fighting has resumed in areas where he has claimed a diplomatic role, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Russia’s war in Ukraine remains unresolved despite Trump’s pledge to end it on the first day of his second term. U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran have also led to a conflict lasting seven months, disrupting global energy supplies and pushing up gasoline prices ahead of November’s U.S. midterm elections.

Trump also referred to the Nobel medal that Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented to him in January. Machado, the 2025 peace prize recipient, gave him her medal while seeking U.S. support for her efforts in Venezuela.

“It is about that time,” Trump said. “But I was very honored to receive it indirectly last time by the recipient, who said nobody in history deserves it more than President Trump.”
