Trump extends Iran deadline to April 6 as talks progress

WASHINGTON, March 26, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – President Donald Trump said on Thursday he had extended his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until April 6, pulling back from an earlier threat to strike the country’s energy plants as talks to end the conflict were going “very well.”

Trump had previously warned Iran that it faced attacks on its energy infrastructure if Tehran did not reopen the vital waterway.

Iran had threatened to retaliate against critical regional infrastructure, including desalination facilities, if Trump carried out that threat.

Trump said he was holding off on the threatened strikes because negotiations aimed at ending the conflict were making progress.
