Thunderstorms, hail and strong winds to affect several regions of Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Dec. 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Thunderstorms accompanied by hail showers, active winds and possible fog formation will continue to affect several regions across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to the National Center for Meteorology.


The center said the weather conditions are expected to impact parts of Jazan, Aseer, Al-Baha, Makkah, Riyadh, Qassim and the Eastern Region, as well as parts of the Northern Borders and Al-Jouf regions. Fog may also form over parts of those areas, as well as parts of Madinah and Hail.


Over the Red Sea, winds will be northerly to northwesterly in the northern and central parts at speeds of 15–45 km/h, while southeasterly to southerly winds are expected in the southern part at speeds of 12–32 km/h. Wave heights are forecast to range between one and two meters in the northern and central areas, and between half a meter and one and a half meters in the southern areas. Sea conditions will be moderate, becoming slight to moderate in some locations.


In the Arabian Gulf, winds are expected to be southeasterly to northeasterly at speeds of 10–20 km/h, shifting in the afternoon to southeasterly to southerly at speeds of 15–40 km/h. Wind speeds could reach up to 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds.


Waves in the Arabian Gulf are expected to range from half a meter to one and a half meters, exceeding two meters with thundercloud activity. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate, becoming rough during thunderstorm activity.
