TAIPEI, November 11, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Taiwan evacuated more than 3,000 residents on Tuesday and issued a land warning as Typhoon Fung-wong approached its eastern coast, threatening to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to mountainous areas already battered by previous storms.
“Although Fung-wong has been downgraded to a weak typhoon, we still cannot lower our guard,” Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai told reporters.
President Lai Ching-te urged residents to avoid mountains, coastlines, and other high-risk areas, posting a message on Facebook emphasizing public safety.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, 66 flights—mostly domestic—were canceled on Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions.
Meteorologists expect Fung-wong to sweep across the southern tip of Taiwan before re-entering the Pacific Ocean along the sparsely populated eastern counties of Taitung and Hualien.
In September, Hualien was hit by a devastating typhoon that caused severe flooding and killed 18 people. Authorities have now ordered fresh evacuations in Guangfu, the same town affected in that disaster, relocating 3,337 residents across four counties and cities to safer areas.
Schools and government offices were closed on Tuesday in Hualien and neighboring Yilan County as precautionary measures.
