MADRID, July 8 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Spain said it was treating U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments calmly and as “business as usual,” adding that Madrid had no intention of changing its relationship with the United States.

The Spanish prime minister’s office said Spain wanted to maintain its “excellent social, cultural and economic relationship” with Washington.

In its response, Madrid said the United States runs a trade surplus with Spain, meaning Washington benefits more from the trade relationship.

It also said the European Union is a customs and trade union, and that individual member states cannot be singled out in trade matters.

The statement added that economic ties are built by private companies, not governments.
