Spain Closes Airspace to U.S. War Flights

RIYADH, March 30, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Spain has closed its airspace to U.S. military planes involved in attacks on Iran, Defence Minister Margarita Robles said on Monday, extending Madrid’s earlier refusal to allow the use of jointly operated military bases for such operations.

Robles said Spain would not authorize the use of either military bases or its airspace for actions related to the war in Iran.

The move forces military aircraft to bypass Spain when flying toward the Middle East, although it does not apply in emergency situations, according to Spanish media reports.

Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said the decision was consistent with Spain’s stance not to participate in or contribute to a war the government considers unilateral and contrary to international law.
